About Bishop Mutual Insurance Company

In early 1882 a group of citizens from the area formed and organized Bishop Township Mutual Fire Insurance Company. The charter was issued on March 14, 1882 and the first office was located in the township of Bishop in the school house in district no. 1. In 1885 the school house and the insurance office was moved to section 11, Bishop Township to the site where the American Legion is now located.

Born out of necessity, the mutual concept continues in much the same way today. It is important to recognize that we have been guided by the insights of those earlier leaders that lead us in the direction we needed to go. We want to express our deepest gratitude to those many people who over the past 139 years have contributed so much to the success of our company and our community. The friendship of those we serve is the foundation of our progress.

At the present time Bishop Mutual Insurance Company is located on Main Street in beautiful downtown Dieterich, Illinois. Our agents write farm, home, auto, and crop insurance. Our present board of directors are Roger Elliott, President, Tom Harrmann, Vice President, Danny Johnston, Secretary-Manager, Burnel Beckman, Tony Strutner, Mandi Utley, Jeff Slifer, and Darrin Sappenfield.
